General Information

The San Francisco Co-ed Recreational Soccer League is an adult co-ed soccer league open to men and women 21 years of age and older. All players must demonstrate proof that they are covered under a medical insurance plan. Active professional soccer players are not allowed to play in this league. This is an amateur soccer player league.

Seasons

We have two seasons:

  • Spring
Our spring season begins in early April and runs through the end of June. We play on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Game times are usually at 6:30pm or 6:45 pm (depending on available daylight on unlit fields) and at 6pm and 8pm (for games at a lighted field).

  • Fall
Our Fall season usually begins the first or second Sunday in September and usually runs through December. We do not play on the Sundays during the following holiday weeks: Thanksgiving, Christmas. Game times are usually at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm.

Fields

We play at the Polo, Beach Chalet, Jim Lucey (formerly West Sunset), and Crocker Amazon soccer fields in San Francisco.

Basic Rules

The SFCRSL follows the FIFA laws of the games except for these differences which were created to increase safety, equalization, and enjoyment to the game for all adults in the league.

  • No slide tackling allowed. This is for obvious safety reasons.
  • Five-touch rule: a player can only touch the ball five times in succession with his or her foot before another player, either a teammate or an opposing player, touches the ball. Touches via the head, knee, chest, etc do not count as one of the four touches. This rule is an attempt at equalizing the level of play so that exceptional players do not monopolize or dominate the game. We want the league to be fun for all regardless of their playing skills.

There are a few more minor rule differences. The complete description of the league's rules and regulations can be download from the Downloads page.

Joining the League

Individuals may join the league provided that they meet the age requirement, have proof that they are covered under a medical health plan, and are not currently playing in a professional soccer league. We do not typically accept new teams into the league as there are limitations on the number of fields that we can use and teams leave our league infrequently. Occasionally, we may add some teams or replace a team if one drops out of the league, but these are rare occurrences. Feel free to send a note to president©sfcrsl.org to find out if there may be an upcoming opening.

To join as an individual, please follow these suggestions:

  • Fill out the Player Pool form as managers frequently check there for new players: [link]

  • Attend the pre-season mixer tournaments. Check the website for news on the event dates.

  • Check our game schedule and come to a game to contact teams in person.
